Thinking about studying abroad? Singapore is becoming a top choice for international students, offering an amazing learning experience in a lively, multicultural city. If you're hoping for an academic journey that brings both personal growth and great future opportunities, Singapore could be just the place for you. Let's walk through the key steps and awesome benefits of studying in this dynamic global hub.

Benefits of Studying in Singapore

Studying in Singapore offers a wealth of advantages that extend beyond the classroom, shaping a truly holistic and enriching experience for international students.

1. High-Quality Education

Singapore is known worldwide for its incredibly high education standards, consistently ranking among the best countries for academic excellence. Our Ministry of Education (MOE) carefully oversees all institutions, making sure they meet strict quality guidelines, whether they're public or private. This commitment means you'll get a solid, globally recognised qualification, giving you up-to-date knowledge and skills that are highly valued everywhere. Plus, the focus on innovation and research in the curriculum really boosts your learning, preparing you for today's fast-changing global economy.

2. Strong Employment Opportunity

Studying in Singapore opens doors to excellent job opportunities after you graduate. The country’s great location in Southeast Asia, along with its booming economy and status as a global business and innovation hub, attracts big international companies and exciting new startups. Industries like Finance, Technology, Biomedical Sciences, and Logistics are always growing, which means there's a big demand for skilled professionals. Graduates from educational institutions in Singapore are often highly sought after because of their quality education, practical skills, and exposure to a dynamic market, putting them in a great position for successful careers.

3. Safety and High Living Standards

Singapore is consistently ranked as one of the safest cities in the world, giving foreign students a real sense of peace. Our low crime rates and efficient law enforcement create a secure and welcoming environment where you can truly focus on your studies and personal development.

Beyond safety, Singapore also offers incredibly high living standards, with fantastic public transport, modern facilities, and excellent healthcare. This all adds up to a comfortable and enjoyable living experience, allowing you to thrive both inside and outside the classroom without unnecessary worries.

Educational institutions in Singapore offer lots of popular programmes that match global industry needs and our strong local economy. Each programme gives you a great mix of theory and hands-on practice, getting you ready for a successful career in your chosen field.

Student’s Pass Requirements

Getting your Student's Pass is a key part of starting your academic journey in Singapore as an international student. This important document allows you to live and study here legally for your whole programme.

Generally, your Student's Pass is valid for the entire length of your programme, up to a maximum of four years for undergraduate programmes, and for the full programme duration for postgraduate studies. Good to know: you usually don't need to apply for a Student's Pass if you already have the following:

  • Dependant's Pass
  • Long-Term Visit Pass
  • Immigration Exemption Order
  • Short-Term Visit Pass for a course of less than 30 days

Just a heads-up, the exact requirements and procedures for a Student’s Pass can vary a bit depending on which institution you plan to attend. Also, keep in mind that part-time programmes and those held only in the evening or on weekends are not eligible for a Student’s Pass.

Approved Private Education Institutions

If you're looking to study at a private education institution (PEI) in Singapore, it's really important that the school is EduTrust-certified. Only these PEIs are allowed to accept foreign students — and that's a key sign of quality that Kaplan Higher Education Academy (Kaplan) proudly holds.

You'll need to apply to the institution, or with an appointed agent in your home country, at least two, but no more than three, months before your programme is set to begin.

To make sure your application goes smoothly, have important documents ready. These include your Registration Acknowledgement Letter from the school and a clear scan of your travel document's biodata page. The processing time for a new Student’s Pass application is usually around one month.

Institutes of Higher Learning

For international students joining Singapore’s local universities, polytechnics, or international schools with local campuses (which we refer to as Institutes of Higher Learning), getting your Student's Pass is a pretty straightforward process.

Similarly, you'll apply to the institution at least two, but no more than three, months before your programme starts. Make sure you have all your necessary documents ready, and you can potentially get your Student’s Pass within one month.

Foreign System Schools and Privately-Funded Schools

If you're an international student planning to enrol in Foreign System Schools (FSS) or other privately-funded schools in Singapore, you'll first need to confirm that the FSS you've chosen is EduTrust-certified.

Similar to other institutions, you'll apply to the institution at least two, but no more than three, months before your programme officially kicks off. Be sure to have all your required documents for submission and you can expect to have your new Student’s Pass application approved within one month.

Tuition Fees

Understanding the financial side of studying in Singapore is important for any international student. Tuition fees here can really vary, depending on whether you choose a public university, polytechnic, or a private education institution, as well as the specific programme and how long it lasts.

It's key to remember to budget for more than just tuition fees — think about miscellaneous fees, living expenses, accommodation, and health insurance too. Most schools are very transparent about their fee structures, and it's always a good idea to check their official websites or just get in touch with their admissions teams directly to plan your finances effectively.

Scholarships

For international students dreaming of studying in Singapore, scholarships can significantly help with costs and make a quality education much more reachable. There are various scholarships available, offered by the Singaporean government, individual schools, and private organisations.

For instance, Kaplan is proud to offer prestigious opportunities for high-achieving senior high school graduates, such as the David Tan Scholarship. This particular scholarship is designed for students from China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam who have achieved fantastic academic success in their national high school exams. This scholarship supports undergraduate studies by covering all tuition fees for the programme and providing a generous S$40,000 living allowance, ensuring comprehensive support throughout their academic journey at Kaplan.

Beyond this, Kaplan also provides other opportunities like the Merit Scholarship, which recognises academic excellence in national high school exam results and covers programme fees for the Kaplan Diploma in Professional Business English, full-time Kaplan Foundation Diploma, and full-time Kaplan Diploma programmes. These scholarships really show just how committed Kaplan is to helping talented students achieve their educational dreams.
